Definition

The project Final Design Review (FDR) is the formal Design Review held at the end of the Test Stage.

The objectives of the project FDR are to:

  1. Make sure that recommendations from previous Design Reviews have been taken into account
  2. Formally approve the test work
  3. Formally approve the product final design
  4. Check whether the expected technical performance allow to remain within the project contract margins

Questions

Technical assessment

  • Are the results of Alpha test acceptable?
  • Are the results of Beta test acceptable?
  • Can the product design be frozen?
  • Is there any outstanding technical issue preventing us from moving forward to the Release Stage?

Cross-functional check

  • Does the product detailed design meet all the Serviceability requirements?
  • Does the product detailed design meet all the Manufacturing requirements?
  • Does the product detailed design meet all the Manufacturing Test requirements?
  • Are there any outstanding sourcing issues with the product design?
  • Does the current product detailed design support the cost objectives for the product / solution?

Readiness for Detailed Design Stage

  • Is Manufacturing / Contract Manufacturer ready to 1st Production Build?
  • Are all product components available to start 1st Production Build?
  • Are resources and equipment available?
  • Have we identified additional risk areas (technical, cost, schedule basis) since Alpha Readiness Review and if so, what are the contingencies?
  • Will the expected technical performance allow to remain within the project contract margins?
