R&D Test Strategy, Design & Development

Stage: Specification, Design and Verification

Definition

Activities taking place before HDR include:

  • · Define initial test strategy and plan

Activities taking place before PDR include:

  • Define final test strategy and plan
  • Define initial Unit / Integration Test programs (H/W, S/W, ASIC component) - those programs are tailored to every specific product
  • Define initial Engineering Test programs
  • Identify test equipment and tools required

Activities taking place before CDR include:

  • Finalize Unit / Integration Test programs (H/W, S/W, ASIC component)
  • Finalize Engineering Test programs
  • Define initial System and Alpha Test procedures
  • Procure test environment
  • Procure test resources
  • Build test environment for Unit/Integration and Engineering tests
  • Allocate internal/external labs for additional engineering tests
  • Open project in DDTS (including permissions and reports)
  • Set-up S/W configuration management tool and usage methodology

Activities taking place before Alpha Readiness Review include:

  • Build test environment for Unit/Integration and Engineering tests
  • Finalize System and Alpha Test procedures
  • Define initial Beta Test procedure and Beta nomination
  • Prepare Agency certification and allocate external labs

Dependencies

This step starts during the specification stage

This step overlaps with ASIC, H/W and S/W design steps

Unit/Integration Test step and Engineering Test step start before this step is completed (see details in Unit/Integration, Engineering/System test steps)

This step ends before execution of System Test

Input

Before HDR: MRD, Technical requirements, System architecture (draft)

Before PDR: H/W, S/W and ASIC design documents (draft)

Before CDR: H/W, S/W and ASIC design documents

Before Alpha Readiness Review: H/W, S/W and ASIC development documents

Competencies

The resources for Test Design and Development mostly come from developers from project team

Unit test: every developer

Integration test: 1 S/W, 1 H/W (1)

Engineering test: HALT(1/2 person), Env. (1/2), "box" test (2), system test (1/2), PHY (1/2), Agency (1/2)
